Chase Research Cryogenics designs, develops and markets advanced cryogenics systems for a wide and growing range of scientific and engineering fields. Current applications include astrophysics, quantum technologies, nanotechnology, materials science and biophotonics.  
Our main activity is the design and production of sub-Kelvin cryocoolers, with a strong emphasis on custom design to individual specifications. 

We continue to innovate and extend our product range to offer new opportunities to work at ultra-low temperatures. Current developments include our CONTINUOUS closed-cycle cryocoolers, providing stable sub-Kelvin temperatures for months at a time.

In 1993 Dr. Simon T. Chase started a small business enterprise, based in Sheffield and trading as 'Chase Research', to design and produce simple and reliable sub-Kelvin cryogenic coolers for the research market. Chase Research became incorporated as Chase Research Cryogenics Ltd. in January 2003. Today, Chase Research Cryogenics is continuing to innovate and to expand. Our growing in-house team of engineers and physicists is working in partnership with both local and global business partners, bringing our unique products to new markets.

Sub-Kelvin cryocoolers
We make a wide range of single-shot cryocoolers to meet our customers' diverse requirements. Base temperatures range from 0.1 to 1 Kelvin, hold times range from 8 hours to 72 hours, and heat lift capacities range from 10 microwatts to 1 milliwatt.
Continuous cryocoolers
We make two models of continuous cryocooler. Our 1KCC version provides a base temperature below 1K with a cold stage heat lift of more than 250 microwatts. It's cooler sibling the 300mKCC provides a base temperature below 300mK with a cold stage heat lift of up to 20 microwatts. Hold time is indefinite!
Gas-gap heat switches
We make heat switches for a variety of uses, including bespoke designs to meet specific customer requirements. Active heat switches are used for systems cycled under user control. Passive switches automatically turn off and are used for rapid cool-down and  thermal isolation. 

Cool to below 1 Kelvin
Simple, low-cost and easy to use. Our standard lines of single-shot 4He cryocooler achieve base temperatures as low as 800 mK, hold times ranging from 12 to 24 hours, and work with heat loads of up to 1 milliWatt. We can customize our designs to meet specific user requiremements. Our new continuous 1K coolers allow you to reach temperatures below 1K, without any limit in hold time.
Cool to below 0.3 Kelvin
Upgrade to the next level with a 3He crycooler. We make a range of standard models for different applications. The base temperature, hold time and heat load needed dictate how much 3He gas the cryocooler needs to contain. and hence the price. A typical Helium 7 cryocooler containing 2.5 litres STP of 3He will run at base temperature below 300mK for well  in excess of 24 hours. We also have a continuous 300mK cryocooler for unlimited run times.
Cool to below 0.1 Kelvin
A key research goal for the company is to develop small, compact, low-cost dilution cryocoolers for customers seeking to work at temperatures below 100mK. We have successfully built a number of prototype dilutor systems and are currently working to improve their design and performance. Here too, we are exploring the potential for continuous operation by using one of our continuous 300mK crycoolers as a precooler for a dilutor module.
